Leather care with SAPHIR Leather & Saddle Soap

The leather and saddle soap is used when a simple wiping/brushing is no longer sufficient. After a certain time, almost every leather product needs a basic cleaning. Old residues of leather creams and waxes have accumulated on the leather. Dust and dirt accumulate in all corners, edges and pores. The cleaning process produces a light foam that releases a pleasant fragrance. It is gentle on the colours and at the same time has a moisturising effect and does not harden the material.

The correct application

Take up the soap with a damp sponge and rub the whole leather with it. Rinse the sponge thoroughly and wipe the leather with the wet sponge. The shoe cleaning is particularly thorough if you use a brush made of natural bristles instead of a sponge. After cleaning, leave the leather shoe to dry on a shoe tree or allow the leather product to dry.

Our recommendation for ideal leather care

Always proceed in the same order and test the compatibility of each care product on a non-visible or concealed area. For handbags, the underside or the inside of straps and fasteners are ideal. For shoes, the area around the heel or even the tongue or flap is a good place to test the compatibility.

First clean the product to be cared for. Remove dust and light dirt with a horsehair brush or a soft cotton cloth. Deep-seated dirt and stains that have not completely disappeared in the first step should be treated with a suitable cleaning agent.

If you have used a cleaning agent, let it dry on the leather and then start the second step of leather care. Now apply a leather cream sparingly in the appropriate shade. Massage the leather cream into the surface using light circular movements and without applying pressure.

Tip

• A darker shade will darken the leather.
• With a lighter shade, the colour tone is retained.

After a resting period of about 10 minutes, polish the leather with a horsehair brush.

In the third and last step, apply the wax sparingly and gently in the same application mode. This protects the leather surface against the effects of weather and other influences. You can achieve a beautiful high gloss by polishing the leather with the horsehair brush for a longer time and with quick movements. (Alternatively, use a cotton cloth)
