Langer & Messmer microfibre cloths pick up loosened dirt and moisture when you clean your trainers. The set contains three grey cloths, each measuring 33 × 33 cm.

Microfibre is made from very fine synthetic fibres. Their large surface area traps dirt particles and absorbs plenty of moisture instead of simply spreading both across the shoe. The soft weave works equally well on smooth leather, synthetic leather, textile, canvas, mesh and rubber.

There is a practical reason for three cloths. After brushing in the cleaner, use the first to wipe the loosened dirt off the upper and the second for the coarser dirt on the sole, so it does not end up on a light-coloured upper. The third stays ready while the others are in the wash. The size folds easily and wraps around your fingers, so you can reach the edge of the sole and the spaces between the eyelets.

The cloths complement our Sneaker Cleaner and the brushes from our Sneaker Line. Cleaner, brush and one cloth also come together as the Sneaker Cleaning Kit. For a high shine on classic leather shoes, we recommend our cotton polishing cloths instead.

Frequently asked questions about the microfibre cloth

How do you wash microfibre cloths properly?
Ideally in the washing machine at 40 °C with a mild detergent and no fabric softener. Softener coats the fine fibres, and the cloths then pick up less dirt and moisture. Wash microfibre separately from cotton so that no lint settles in the fibres, and let the cloths air-dry.

What shouldn't you clean with a microfibre cloth?
For shoes, mainly suede and nubuck: a damp cloth can mat the delicate nap and leave water marks, so a suede brush is the better choice there. For a high shine on polished leather shoes, a cotton cloth is the classic tool. And a cloth that still holds coarse dirt should not be drawn across delicate surfaces, as fine particles can scratch.

What is the best way to clean my shoes?
For trainers, in three steps: brush off loose dirt while dry, loosen the ingrained dirt with Sneaker Cleaner, a little water and a brush, then remove it with a damp microfibre cloth. Finally, let the shoes air-dry. Classic leather shoes are cared for with shoe cream after cleaning and then polished.
