Shoe Care Set for Rugged Footwear

This set brings together the care for rugged footwear: hiking boots, hunting boots, work boots and hard-wearing boots. It pairs our neutral dubbin with the firm brushes of the range, matched to hard-worn smooth leather. Whichever combination you choose, you get the right pieces, always at a better set price.

The three steps of care

Rugged footwear is cared for in three steps. First the cleaning brush takes off coarse dirt and dried mud. Then the applicator brush works dubbin deep into the leather, which feeds hard-worn smooth leather and guards against moisture. Finally the polishing and dusting brush buffs the surface evenly and lifts off the excess grease. The brushes are made in Germany.

The sets at a glance

  • Dubbin set: dubbin and applicator brush, the base care to feed and protect.
  • Brush set: cleaning, applicator and polishing and dusting brush, the full trio for all three steps.
  • Complete set: dubbin and all three brushes, the whole routine in one set.

For rugged footwear, not for fine dress shoes

Dubbin and firm natural bristles are made for hard-worn smooth leather, as found on hiking, hunting and work boots. For fine calf dress shoes, use shoe cream and soft horsehair brushes instead. Not suitable for suede or nubuck.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to clean shoes?
In the right order and with the right tool: first brush off coarse dirt dry, then care for the leather and let it soak in, and polish last. On rugged footwear, the cleaning brush, the applicator brush with dubbin, and the polishing brush each handle one step.

Should you grease leather shoes?
Hard-worn smooth leather on hiking, hunting and work boots benefits from it: dubbin feeds the leather and guards against moisture. Fine calf dress shoes are cared for with shoe cream instead, not greased. Dubbin is not suitable for suede or nubuck.

Which is better, dubbin or shoe cream?
It depends on the shoe. Dubbin is the intensive care for hard-worn smooth leather that needs moisture protection, such as hiking and work boots. Shoe cream cares for and colours the fine smooth leather of dress shoes and keeps the shine. The two complement each other.

How do you polish shoes properly?
Always after care and once the product has soaked in. Work over the leather with the polishing and dusting brush in brisk strokes until the surface is even. On greased, rugged footwear the firm hog bristles lift off the excess grease as they go.
