The History of the Cap Toe Oxford
The Cap Toe Oxford is defined by its closed lacing and the distinctive horizontal leather cap across the toe. Its roots date back to the 19th century, when students at the University of Oxford were looking for a more comfortable alternative to stiff, high button boots. These boots soon evolved into low-cut lace-up shoes – the ankle was exposed, the silhouette became slimmer, and the modern Oxford was born. The additional toe cap originally served as protection and reinforcement. Over time, it became a defining design feature and today represents subtle structure and classic elegance. Goodyear-Welted Construction with Cork Filling
The upper leather, insole, surrounding leather welt and outsole are joined together with a double-stitched construction. Over time, the cork filling moulds to the individual shape of the foot. The shoe can be resoled multiple times.
